SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Sasebo Student Transportation Office (STO), located in Building PW-47 (HRO/Base Legal bldg.) on the second floor, provides transportation for all eligible students living within the designated school bus commuting area. Maps of the commuting areas for Sasebo City are provided in the Housing Welcome Center and the STO. If you are looking to move into a rental unit, please call the STO for the nearest bus stop locations prior to signing the lease. If you live or decide to move into a unit not located within the commuting area, you will need to transport your child to the nearest established bus stop within the commuting area or to the school.
REGISTRATION:
To register your children, please bring them to the STO to have their picture taken and receive bus ridership information and policies. You must register with the school first. Students who have been registered are provided bus passes that allow them access to the bus. Students are required to present their school bus pass to the bus monitor, bus driver, school bus office personnel, or to school administrators as they board the bus. Report any lost bus passes to the STO by calling in a timely manner so a replacement can be issued.
TEMPORARY QUARTERS:
Those students living at the Navy Lodge may be registered for school at Sasebo ES or EJ King schools depending on their grade and afforded school bus transportation. Once you accept quarters at Hario Village your child is going to transfer to the Hario Village buses and can walk to the centralized bus stop from your new quarters. If your child is going to EJ King they will continue to ride the bus to and from school regardless of where you live. Simply call to get new passes sent to you just prior to your move.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY BUSES:
Buses leave the EJ King school bus loading zone at 1730 and all students are required to have a bus pass to ride this bus. It is primarily for students attending after school sports and school related events. The bus goes straight to Hario Village. Stops along the way to Hario require special coordination in advance. However, when space is available other students may ride on a space available basis. Please call the STO in advance to make special arrangements for your child.
BEHAVIOR STANDARDS FOR SCHOOL BUS STUDENTS
The safe operation of school buses also depends on proper conduct by the students that ride those buses. Parents share with their students the responsibility for student behavior on our school buses. Parents and sponsors must ensure that their children understand follow the rules for riding the school bus. When children disobey the rules, they make the bus unsafe for every other student on that bus. Bus drivers must not be distracted from safe driving by children's misbehavior. Students must show respect for bus drivers, monitors and safety attendants and follow all of their instructions. Their safety depends on it.
School bus transportation is a privilege that may be suspended or revoked. We do not have the resources to be school bus police officers. We rely on parents and sponsors to teach their children proper behavior. Accordingly, school bus rules will be strictly enforced. Students not complying with school bus rules will not be tolerated. Students who are suspended from daily commuting transportation (home to school) buses will not be allowed to ride the co-curricular buses (after school activity bus). The same applies if children are suspended off the co-curricular bus, they will not be allowed on the daily commuting transportation bus. When this happens, parents and sponsors will have to make their own arrangements for the children to get to and from school. As a condition for having your children ride the school bus, you may be required to reimburse DoDDS for any cost as a result of damages caused to the school bus by your child.
